Overclocking MSI 5600 FX card - any ideas?
HUH? I am using the MSI FX5600-VTDR128 with 44.03 Drivers. I don't see
the ability to set my own clock rates anywhere. The fastest I've been able to get it to run with 3DMark03 is 2897. Do I need to be running 44.65 Beta drivers to do this? I am running Windows XP SP1 Pro, with nVidia Drivers 44.03. My Motherboard is a ASUS P4P800 (865 chipset), P4 2.80CGHz Intel, My 1GB Dual DDR is 400+. DRCray Answered my own question. I downloaded and installed the registry hack from http://www.guru3d.com/cgi-bin/countd...i?coolbits.reg and rebooted to display the clock settings. |

Answered my own question. I downloaded and installed the registry hack
from http://www.guru3d.com/cgi-bin/countd...i?coolbits.reg and rebooted to display the clock settings. Automatic cranked up my CPU Clock to 383 and my Memory Clock to 669. I got so excited that I tested it right away, only to find that I got serious artifacts and a lower score. Without rebooting, I tried CPU Clock of 362 and Mem Clock of 627. The artifacts were still there. I then realized I really should have rebooted. I shut down, and put my Intel Clock to normal and tried the 362/627 settings again. There were no artifacts, but my score ended up being 2778 - where at 325/550 is was 2816. That's when I discovered my CPU was underclocked at 1.4GHz!!!! I adjusted my CPU back to 2.8GHz and ran it again. This time at 362/327 the score was an impressive 3100! Next, I thought I'd try something close to those auto adjusted settings again. I set the speeds to 366/664, but this time I shut down and rebooted. Everything ran smooth. I got 3179. At that point I was very happy and didn't think I should push the unit any more. Curiosity begot the cat, and perhaps it could have begot me. I pushed again. I adjusted to 384/668. I've been trying to keep the multiples even numbers at 6/4. This means the clocks are (64*6) / (4*167). Set. Shut Down. Came up. No Score. I was having issues. I would get pixelization, lockups, or posting issues. I tried it about 10 times at different frequencies before setting it back to 366/664. For my very last test, I kept the video card at 366/664. I went into the system BIOS and overclocked the unit 20% to 3360MHz. The system came up and I ran 3DMark03. Things were optimal. Things looked great. I don't think I'll get any better than this with air cooling. This is the max this $160 Video Card will do. The result? 3223 3DMarks. DRCray |

Card model is MSI FX5600=TD128, with stock cooler. HUH? I am using the MSI FX5600-VTDR128 with 44.03 Drivers. I don't see the ability to set my own clock rates anywhere. You have to use Coolbits to get the clock setting function in the nVidia control panel. HTH, Trev |
