System boot failure after using GURU to overclock
Hi
System specs as follows: ABIT AG8-V MAINBOARD INTEL 530J PENTIUM 4 LGA775 WITH AKASA AK-954D COOLER 2 X 512MB PC3200 (PC400) MAJOR ELIXIR DDR RAM (IN SLOTS 1+3) 160GB SAEGATE BARRACUDA SATA HDD WITH COOLER MSI 256MB PCI-E ATI RX700 PRO GRAPHICS CARD 17" CRT MONITOR XP HOME INC SP2 400W PSU 3 X CASE FANS Problem as follows: I decided to use OC GURU for the first time today (26/05/05) as I was curious about the overclocking side of this utility. I read the manual first and followed the instructions. I experimented switching from Turbo to Normal and to Quiet mode after which all was fine. I then proceeded to configure user 1 settings one notch above the Turbo settings and on cool mode. After clicking apply my monitor went blank and an alarm sounded from the case. The system then shutdown and I have not been able to reboot since. As I understood it GURU should have warned me that settings were not successful and defaults would be loaded. I have followed the instructions in the motherboard manual on boot up failure with no success. I have changed the CCMOS jumper to clear the CMOS data with both the power supply connectors pulled out and the button battery removed. When I power up the fans run for approx 10 seconds and then everything shuts down. No information is visible on the monitor. I hope there is a simple solution to this problem and that my hardware has not been damaged as I have only just purchased the parts and assembled the system A speedy reply would be appreciated as I am very worried that permanent damage has been done to either the motherboard, the processor or both. |

Looks like you're stuffed. If you actually bothered to read up about overclocking before jumping in with both feet, they'd tell you to up it in small increments and stress test it after each increase, not whack it on top setting +1. -- Conor "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most." I did increase in the smallest possible increments and anyway the
software as stated in the manual should have stopped any damage to components or do Abit just claim this for the sake of it!! |

Abit cannot guarantee that no damage will be done. They can only claim that no damage will be done to their motherboard. Oh and stress testing involves running a burn in app for a decent length of time, not just firing up Windows, starting a few programs ond going "That looks OK". -- Conor "Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most."
