Default 2 hdd setup

Hello, i am running an NF7-S ver 2.0 with 2 hard drives on first ide channel
and one dvd and one cd/r on the second channel. both hard drives are a lot
slower than they should be and i was looking for help speeding them up. i am
currently not using either sata hookup. system is athlon 3200+ with
512mb(one slot) ram and an ATI 9800pro video card.

Each channel can only only read/write to 1 device at a time, so if you are
reading/writing to/from devices on the the same channel, it will only do
one at a time. If you are going from a device on one channel to a device
on another channel, then it can be concurrent. With your setup, going
to/from HD to HD or cd to/from dvd drives slows you down. It's best to
have a seperate channel for each device. About $10 will get you a ide raid
controller with 2 more channels. or it could be that you aren't running
the drives in DMA mode. I think you can check this in device manager in
Win, but don't hold me to that. I don't use Win.

Good advice from Wes, the other thing you can do is to get another seriellel
convertor and run the drives using the sata controller in raid 0 (drives
permitting)
