Default HD2900XT Dead Duck

I was in need of an upgrade as my old system would no longer play the latest
releases (X850XT didnt support SM3) and so was left with the choice of ATI
and Nvidia so I thought that the reviews said the 2900XT was as fast as a
640MB 8800GTS in some apps and went and bought one
I feel robbed with the 3850 and 3870 being a lot cheaper and a lot more
powerful. Is the 2900XT dead in the water. I needed something that would
power my 24" LCD screen and this it does but it seems to me to be dire when
even the 8800gt is quicker.
Is it worth holding onto this card or should I help it on its way to the
nearest bin?

Rob

Yes, and the 2900XT is as fast as two X1900XTs, without turning on AA. You
knew what you were getting into.

The HD3870 is *slightly* faster than the 2900XT, yes.

Had you gotten a 8800GTS 640 MB and later discover the 8800GT to be a lot
cheaper and faster, you somehow wouldn't feel robbed? Welcome to technology
advancement.

What a stupid post. Just keep buying every fastest part that ever comes
out, and you won't have to worry about it.

No one robbed you. It was your decision. You did research before buying the
2900XT?

Problem sorted itself out. I tried running Crysis to see if the new Q6600
would help reduce the workload and improve the game but alas it was too much
for this card. It crashed three times and the third time took the whole
card out. The Striker reported BIOS VGA error and refused to POST.
I had to go back to the old faithful X850XT PE. OK it wont run the latest
SM3 games but at least it's working.
