P4PE bios checksum error after being unplugged
When my old P4PE-based system is unplugged (or switched off at the power
strip) overnight, I'll get a BIOS checksum error on the first boot of the next day and have to re-enter all my BIOS parameter changes. This started after the system was in storage for about 2 months while the basement was being remodeled. My first thought was to replace the battery on the board, but a google search shows others with similar problems which weren't fixed with a new battery, but none of the hits had any fixes for the problem. I'm going to replace the battery anyway, but does anybody have any other suggestions? -- Bert Hyman St. Paul, MN |

"And, yeah, change the battery first."
And later, possibly change the jumper setting to clear the BIOS real time clock. |

the new one before installing it. Looks like the battery lasted almost exactly 6 years. About as mine (changed mine last year). Not very expensive, so no big problem. -- Lars-Erik Østerud : http://www.osterud.name Asus P4PE, 2.53GHz, 1GB, MSI 7600GS, XP SP3 |
