Asus P4PE Mobo and new or prelove AGP cards
Hi there.
My old video card died last nite and as PCI or AGP cards are hard to come by these days and I see that in the P4Pe handbook it specifies a 1.5 volt AGP card what choices are out there?? I have bought a cheap Matrox G200 pre loved but some told me that they are 3.3volt and will not allow the PC to boot. Thanx in advance.. Maybe it's time to upgrade this box.. |

P4PE has a 845PE Northbridge, a 1.5V only device with respect to AGP. G200 is listed here as "AGP 3.3V Card", so, yeah, that would be a bad thing. It shouldn't even fit in the slot, if the keying is working properly. The AGP slot has plastic keys, to prevent illegal combinations. http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat/agp.html In theory, you should be able to stick a wide range of modern cards in there. Just go a bit more modern than G200 :-) In terms of a "universal donor" type AGP card, if you're not interested in gaming, the FX5200 works in everything. I have a couple, and have used them on my 440BX motherboard (AGP 3.3V only) and on my AGP 8X motherboards. But there will be other cards that also fit the requirements. Paul |

Paul My older system has a P4PE with an ATI 9600XT 128MB for the video. They're well matched, except that the 9600XT is AGP 8X capable and the P4PE only does 4X. ID |
