Default vibration during recording

Hi, I have a 3 year old external SCSI burner, an HP 9210e, and it used to be
very quiet, but now it vibrates a lot during recordings, and it's very noisy
as a result, it sounds like a fridge. It could be the media, but the same
media burns fine on my newer Liteon, which has an anti vibration mechanism -
much quieter. Can vibration affect the quality of the burn? I don't have a
program which can test error rates, but music, video, and data CDRs burned
on my noisy HP still appear to be perfect.

Also, I have a subwoofer which is not magnetically shielded; should I avoid
storing CDRs near it?
Thanks.

Have you checked that the assembly is tight? Unbalance of the drive is
very unlikely, so I suspect something simpler.

CDs, home-made or pressed, are insensitive to magnetic fields. I store
CD-Rs directly atop substantial loudspeakers and have had no problems.
