R8500VE 128 vs R9000Pro 128

Yo!

I've heard conflicting arguments as to which card is actually better as far
as perforance is concerned. I have an 8500VE sitting on the shelf as a
backup, I'm using a 9000Pro in my system right now. I have an XP1700+ ATM ,
but I will be upgrading to an XP2400+ very soon. I plan on putting the
9000Pro on the 1700+ system and the 8500VE on the 2400+ system to kinda
balance them out... or should I reverse the two???

Which card would give me the best performance, all things being equal.

The 8500 is more powerful than 9000 on everything but DirectX 9.

The 9000 isn't going to be any better in DX9, it's not a DirectX 9 card. The
fact that it starts with 9xxx means nothing.

The 9000 is a CUT DOWN 8500.

I don't think anyone actually implied that the 9xxx series is in any way
connected with DX9...


The 9000 is a CUT DOWN 8500.

From what I just read, the 8500 is based on the R200 chipset, the 9000 on
the R250 chipset. That said, the 8500LE does still have better specs than
the 9000Pro. I originally was running a 7500 but I needed to pull it and
the 9000Pro was the best card I could grab for around $100, which was all
I had to spend. It's still a decent card for the price, way better than a
GF MX series IMO...
