Dead Vostro 1520?
A Vostro 1520 that has been off since spring
doesn't do anything if you hit the power button. No lights, no noise, no nothing. AC power good. Same with or without battery. Ideas? My experiences inside a 1520 are not good. I guess it can be used for parts. -- On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |

Now hold the power button for 30 seconds, enough time to discharge all the CMOS settings. Now plug the power adapter in and see what happens. I have encountered or helped out with a number of laptops that have gone into an undocumented "comatose" state. Many people customarily put their laptops to sleep, rather than powering down completely. In fact, I think it was brian-dead Vista that had an on-off icon button that put a system to sleep (instead of completely off), encouraging people to do so. Well, once a laptop is sleeping and not plugged into the wall outlet, it is still consuming current and discharging its big battery. When the big battery runs out of juice, the laptop becomes comatose, and needs a defibrulator. .... Ben Myers |

I had an old Vostro 1500 that was similarly dead, but they have two on buttons, and it responded to the dell media button, which gave a path to boot XP. There's only one on button on this baby. -- On the internet, nobody knows you're a jerk. |
