Default recording video to VCR from PC with All in Wonder card?

Sorry, channel is the wrong word, "input source" is the term I meant. Eg my
VCR cycles between AV1 and AV2 and tuner on input select, my TV cycles
between AV1, AV2, Tuner and Front AV.
In both cases AV1 and AV2 are SCART, and the TV Front AV is composite in
(yellow phono socket). They cycle "Select source" using a button marked AV
on the remote.

Also be sure to use the correct output socket from the Radeon - it very easy
to get it wrong with so many phono type leads flying around! On my Radeon
9000 PRO AIW the top one is output - to the header block, the 2nd down is TV
aerial in, the 3rd one down is output, with leads for RCA (composite Video -
yellow), S/PDIF, S-Video, and audio input.

I am fortunate in that my Sony Camcorder has composite out, so I used that
initially to be sure I knew which connectors to use for input to the TV &
VCR to eliminate one possible variable.

Duh! - there are lots of variables, and it is very easy to get something
wrong initially!

Yank out all the connectors and try again, with coloured tape Red/Black to
distinguish Radeon INPUT/OUTPUT.

Good luck,
Laurence

Thanks Laurence for your post...I have connected the composite cable from
the ATI card to the 'video-in' jack on my VCR so I am pretty sure that is
the correct channel. I am also using the composite adapter cable that
accompanied the card in the box provided directly from ATI. So it should

be
connected correctly.

I have tried to connect directly to TV monitor and I see no display.
I have tried to connect directly to VCR and can record nothing to tape.
What I have not tried is connecting to TV monitor through a VCR. Think I
should try this?

Does anyone know how to get video playing on the PC to a VCR using the

video
out feature on the ATI all in wonder 120 pro video card?

The manual says to turn on PC2TV in display properties, which changes

the
display to 800x600; then to connect your vcr using s video or

composite
cable - I choose composite cable so I connect from the video card to

the
video in jack on my VCR and nothing records.

If anyone has any experience with this I would truely appreciate any
suggestions you could offer.

Thanks in advance for your posts!

Can you see the display on your TV before trying to record?
Maybe you have not selected the correct input channel on your VCR?

HTH,
Laurence

Just a thought, but could the macrovision detection be turning off the input
to the composite on the AIW?

Laurence, thanks again for your post and insights on this.

I found what was wrong! Silly me...I was not using the correct adapter - I
was using the composite adapter plug already connected to the A/V IN - I am
now buying a correct 3-jack A/V output adapter to plug into the A/V OUT on
the card and then connect to my card.

Can't believe how this one slipped by me. Again thanks for you assistance
and helping me with this. It was your suggestions that led me to discover my
mistake.

All that remains for me is to figure out why my TV function on this card
stopped working all of a sudden recently. When I start the TV application
now, I get an ATI error message that says it cannot initialize the video and
that I should check to see if I have the correct drivers installed (I do)
and close any other applications that might be displaying video (none are
open). I downloaded the latest driver for this card, installed it, and even
reinstalled the multimedia centre software version 7.2, but it just does not
want to display any more.

Thanks again for all your help!

Graeme, thank you for your post....good point on the
macrovision detection - however I found the source of my problem was
actually me! I was not using the a/v out with the correct adapter and hence
my problems. I am now ordering a proper cable and I am sure it will work
fine after I get that.

All that remains for me is to figure out why my TV function on this card
stopped working all of a sudden recently. When I start the TV application

Thanks again for your post and kind help!

Yes, I've had that one before. What has fixed it for me as complete removal
and re-install of all ATI software ie
1. Remove all ATI apps in "Add/Remove Programmes", including DAO/MDAC and
Windows Media Encoder
2. Check all entries in Device Manager (under Sound & Video - both VBI
codecs, Rage Theatre Audio & Video, TV audio & Tuner) are removed
3. Boot in safe mode and delete all ATI* files from Windows folder (I use
Find files "ATI* and just skip the Favourites folder)
4. Clean the registry of all ATI entries - I use Ontrack Fixit
5. Reboot with Windows Standard VGA driver, and re-install all ATI apps in
the correct order:
a) WDM
b) display
c) Control Panel
d) Windows Media encoder
e) DAO/MDAC
f) DVD encoder
g) MMC

It may well be completely unnecessary to remove all of that lot first, but
since there is no explanation at all of how they all fit together, and the
install order is certainly important, I just do the lot.

A quicker way I have seen listed that may work for you is:

Device manager, remove:

-ATI specialised VBI Codec
-ATI WDM Theatre Audio
-ATI WDM Theatre Video
-ATI WDM TV Audio
-ATI WDM TV Tuner
-Specialised MVD WDM VBI Codec

DO NOT REBOOT
I
install WDM driver
REBOOT

This didn't work for me so I had to do all the list above.

Good luck,
Laurence

I think I should point out, Laurence, that ATi are now recommending that
users should install the display driver first, reboot, then control panel,
reboot, and then the capture driver and reboot.

This is not to criticise you: you've quoted the order that ATi have
previously recommended, that I've always used since the drivers started
coming in separate modules, and that I would suppose most of us use.

And I've yet to try the new method; I've got no idea if ATi are serious
about this or if it's actually their idea of a late April Fool's joke... ;-)

They also now have different MMC sections for AIW and VIVO cards. That's a
good idea in that MMC 8.x seems to have severe problems identifying VIVOs;
8.1 and 8.5 have both installed the TV app for me (previous MMCs have always
installed Video In, as they should, for my VIVO card). However, whereas the
8.5 version simply would not initialise, 8.1 would - and eventually changed
its name to Video In, too. The debug bit described in Rage3D forums shows
that Video In is still trying to find a tv tuner etc on booting, though.
But it works, and works well. AFAICS the VIVO section, as yet, still has
exactly the same software posted as the AIW section, but hopefully VIVO
software will come.

Thank you for pointing that out. As I said, this is what worked for me.

The changes that ATI may or not have made recently have certainly not worked
for me.
In the absence of any explanation in their copious online documentation, I'm
afraid I now have a suspicion that the team that create the driver support
web pages are quite separate from the team that develop the drivers, they
haven't a clue either.

After all, what would it have cost them to put in a word of explanation -
either:

A. There are no WDM drivers in this Catalyst release because they are
unchanged from the previous version. Therefore, contrary to previous
instructions, do not un-install WDM drivers first.

or
B. The WDM drivers are now integrated with the display driver. First
un-install any earlier WDM drivers.

What is the ATI end-user to make of it? April doesn't fall in July.

Thanks for that correction, Patrick.

Laurence,

With your uninstall/reinstall advice, I have got my TV viewer application
working again! Whole process to fix only took about 10 minutes too. Thanks
for your help on this, I really appreciate it!

Thanks to you also Patrick for your assistance!

Yes, if it works first time it is fairly painless, but if you get an install
error late in the process, and have to start again from scratch, then repeat
6 times and give up, it becomes a bit of an ordeal.
