Inspiron 6400 hard drive size
I want to fit a larger hard drive into my Inspiron 6400 laptop but I
dont know what size (GB) I can use on this computer. I am looking at Western Digital 250 gb sata 150 drive but would like to know if this is OK before I purchase it. Trevor Smith |

Just make sure it's a "notebook" hard drive (2.5") not a pc drive (3.5") and SATA not IDE. I remember sometimes when I was narrowing my picks for the next drive I almost picked the wrong one (IDE). Now going a bit beyond what you asked..... Personally I'd avoid Western Digital if possible and pay more for the Seagate. I just went thru the same as you and upgraded from a 80gig 5400 rpm drive to a 160gig Seagate 7200 rpm drive. So far no problems and it runs about 5 degrees cooler than the old one and can tolerate higher temp to like 140 F degrees max per specs. If I recall most go to about 130F. Also the warrantee on WD is like 1 or 3 years (forgot which) and the Seagate is 5 years. |

Should work fine (assuming the 6400 is SATA, the 6000 was not).
I'm not aware of any limitations once you're using SATA -----Original Message----- From: Trevor ] Posted At: Monday, April 21, 2008 5:39 AM Posted To: alt.sys.pc-clone.dell Conversation: Inspiron 6400 hard drive size Subject: Inspiron 6400 hard drive size I want to fit a larger hard drive into my Inspiron 6400 laptop but I dont know what size (GB) I can use on this computer. Trevor Smith I put a WD 320GB in my I6400 about a month ago, works great. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822136197 -- Paul |
