Default Fan Speed

I have an HP742n that is about a year old. Just recently I can hear a fan
(don't know, is there more than one in it?) occassionally slowing down and
running at the slow speed for a few minutes and then speeding back up.

Anyone had this situation before? I don't know if it is a problem or not.

Some motherboards/cases with temperature probes integrated on them actually
modify the fan speeds. My something (I'm not quite sure which one does it)
actually speeds up the fan as the cpu/case gets hotter, and slows it down as
it gets cooler. This is to save power. Perhaps this is it. If possible,
check your BIOS or something to see if your case is hot or cool when this
happens.
