The daughter shut down her Dell 4100 last nitght, this AM. it's DOA.

If you unplug the power for a while then plug it back in and push the
power button the fan "twitches" and thats all that happens!!!

Power supply?????????????????

If so is it atx compatable???? The Dell number is ps-5201-7d

The power supply is unlikely to be your problem, rather
something else is shorting out the supply. The supply is not ATX

Try unplugging all the {hard, floppy, optical} drive power connectors
and see if the problem goes away. Then plug them back in one at a
time to find the piece that's drawing too much...

Take a 6 pack out of petty cash.

You nailed it.

I took everything off of the mother board.
It tried to boot, but of course failed.

Put one board at a time and tried starting it. It kept trying until I
put in the video board no more trying to boot, acted DOA.

Swapped video boards and it booted fine

Thanks
Jerry

Easy guess. Replaced quite a few dead or improperly functioning graphics cards
with nVidia chips. Heat seems to be the culprit. The chips run hot and often
don't get adequate cooling.

Thanks for the additional piece of info... Ben Myers
