How does one setup his CD-RW burner to write with UDF instead of ISO? It is so much easier to be able to move, delete and insert new files with UDF. Where in the Setup with Nero or Roxio does one choose this option? Or is there any such option? I'm using an older version of Roxio (actually Adaptec ECDC 4.02d) and when I bung a blank CDR into my CDRW drive a message pops up asking if I want to format the CDR for "drag and drop" writing etc. This may well be the result of a setting in "Properties" of the DirectCD component of the suite. You may be able to find it and set options by right clicking on the icon (Adaptec DirectCD 3.01d_D5 in my case) on your task bar. My machine came with Nero Express, and it is setup to allow me to manipulate files on the CD-RW with no problem. A friend's computer came from the store with his CD-RW set up without this capability. I'm new, and when reading the Web pages on this matter, my brain starts boiling and my nose begins to run. Can anyone give me a simple explanation as to how my friend can setup his burner for UDF? Cheers, Phred. -- LID |

The burner is not "set up" for UDF: it either implements it or does not. All modern drives do, so the question is how one formats a disc for packets. That is done when a blank is inserted, before writing at all. This is covered at length in the usual references: the CD-R FAQ and the primer at my WWW site. Particularly since specifics depend on your software, I'll be brief. Formatting may be suggested when a blank is inserted or by calling up the packet program. If there is no packet-writing program or if what's available does not handle the blank, drag-and-drop is not available. Once formatted, a write-once disc can only be used for UDF; an erasable must be erased to allow mastering after formatting. Mike -- http://www.mrichter.com/ |
