Default STOP 0X000008E - From DVDWriter?

Hey all!

Running Windows XP Pro here... all the latest updates. I just
installed a Pioneer DVR-A05U DVD writer a few days ago. Yesterday the
PC started bluescreening randomly. The error message I've seen most
is:

STOP 0x0000008e (0xC00000D5,0xBF92C89D, 0xF25C1BC4, 0x00000000)
Win2k.sys Address: BF92C89D

This last half hour or so it go so bad that I couldn't boot at all.
Even safemode was a crapshoot. I did get it booted in safemode and
surfed a bit, but got ANOTHER bluescreen.

Now I have the drive disconnected and the PC seems stable (but it did
this before with the drive connected)

Searching Google, I've seen others with similar problems. Does anyone
know what's going on?

I'm going to do more testing and post what I can. If someone has a
suggestion, I'd appreciate hearing it!
