Default Tech support question

hello,

i am thinking about buying a gateway laptop. i'm not sure that i understand
the tech support policy. it seems that the length of time in years that
you can call tech support for help depends on the support policy that you
purchase. for example, if you buy a 3 year in-home support policy, you can
only call tech support for 3 years for free. is that right?
i thought phone tech support was free for as long as you owned the laptop.

also, is their phone tech support 24/7/365? i don't see anything listed
about the hours that you can call.

any help in this area would be greatly appreciated.

thank you.

Dr. Indera,

Gateway has made some changes in tech support policy. Their
lines are still open 24/7/365. I recommend purchasing a 3-year
warranty for a laptop, because they take extra abuse. I'm not
sure if you have to pay after warranty runs out. It used to be
tech support was for the life of the product.

hi jim,

yes, i would buy a 3 year policy.
based on what you said, i am right, that when the warranty runs out, so does
your phone tech support, unless you purchase their "lifetime" technical
support programs.
i'm not sure i like this, but i may not have any other option, as i can't
find any other company that has a 17 inch LCD laptop and in-house support.

thank you.

I think they usually contact you at the end of your current warranty and ask
if you want to purchase an extended warranty. That's pretty common for all
warranty business, they make money on selling warranties.

Take a look at the "total Protection" option. It offers both warranty and
accidental damage coverage and lifetime tech support can be added.

Joan,

This is interesting. My 3 year warranty on my dell laptop is up in less than
30 days and so far no one has contacted me.
