Default A7N8X DX Rev 2.0 Bios 1003 vs 1005 Question

I have this board and a Barton XP 2500+ The board shipped with the bios
1003. I was able to run the computer at 200mhz fsb x 11 multiplier for a
stable XP 3200+. It was able to handle prime95 and 3dmark2001se overnight
with no problem. I updated my bios to 1005 and I can now barely keep it
stabile at 180mhz x 12multiplier. Anything above this and my system is
unstable. When I flashed the bios I used the alt-f2 option and my settings
were kept from 1003 in the bios so all bios settings were the same. I'm at
a loss as to what I should do. Should I go back to 1003, try the 1004 or
there are always the various uber bios options. Any suggestions about all
these bios' and why my board is now having stability problems would really
be appreciated. I just want to get back to my 200mhz fsb. Also there were
no hardware changes between the two bios' . Thanks

You can go back to 1003 but there is no 1004 for the 2.0 version a7n8x.
1004 is for 1.04 version mobos only.

With 1003 mines running a 2100+ at 2700+. I don't believe anyone could
convince me to update.

I also have a Barton XP2500+ and a Rev. 2.0 A7N8X-D. Mine also came
with BIOS 1003 but I upgraded it to 1004 almost immediately. I have
read on this newsgroup that many people have reported that BIOS 1005
does not overclock nearly as well as the older 1003 and 1004 BIOSes.

My machine also runs very well at 11 x 200 MHz with the 1004 BIOS so I
would recommend that you try installing 1004 and give it a try.

Good luck!

Doug

So much for the spirit of adventure...... I thought that's why we get these
boards... to test and find the limits
