Default Replacement for Thermaltake Volcano 7+ ???

Hi,

System has an Athlon T-Bird 1400. It came with a crappy ARX H/F and CPU
temps reached 75C when at full charge.

I replaced the ARX with a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ and temps went down to

45C
(idle) - 60C (full charge). That was 2 years ago and now the noise is
really a very annoying problem. (Specs says 47 dBA)

I've seen a Thermaltake Silent Boost that advertises 21 dBA... Is it true

?
Will it be more or at least equally efficient than the Volcano 7+ ?

Or, do you recommend another low-noise H/F under US$50 ?

Thanks in advance !

I'm about to buy that fan. I decided to go for it after reading a bunch of
positive reviews for it. Check these out:

(the below one is in German, but has a great chart comparing like 15 hsf
temps):

I did exactly the same change as you, V7+ - Silent Boost, for exactly the
same reason (noise).

I found the cooling power of the Silent Boost to be somewhere between the
V7+ on "med" and V7+ on "hi", though closer to "med". This is after lapping,
as the bottom is a little rough when you get it. And yes, it is very quiet.
I have two of these running in my system (plus a silent PSU and a Blue-Eye
fan) and my HDD (WD800JB) is by far the noisiest part of the system.

I had a Volcano, swapped it for a Thermalright SK7.
Got my vcore up from 1.85v max to 2.15v !
Difference : - Barton 2800+ was at 2388 stable - now at 2529 stable.
Get an 80mm Vantec Tornado and a fan-controller for when you're not gaming.
Lap the SK7 down to 2000 grit and buff with duraglit (polishing wadding).
You may need to place some paper strips under the sink clip for extra
pressure - it makes a difference.
