Default NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE - any issues with STAND BY and/or HIBERNATE modes?

Hello - I was wondering if anyone could offer their feedback regarding
the following problem. I just bought a brand new HP a1610n running on
Windows XP Media Edition which uses NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE. Anyone
aware of any issues with STAND BY and/or HIBERNATE modes? I have tried
every possible combination under the sun setting my monitor to be
turned off after 10 minutes and PC to go into stand by in 30 mins but
what happens is that it goes into a stand by mode only for several
minutes, then comes out and repeats the process etc. Is there a fix for
it or is it a known issue? The driver version that I am using is
6.14.10.9371. Many thanks for any feedback or advice. John

What the layman calls 'sleep' or 'hibernate' are two different modes
known as STR (Suspend to RAM)1&3.

STR3 or ACPI Suspend to RAM is a higher level of power savings, by
turning more devices off that normally would not be off. This requires
that all of your internal HPa1610n device (drivers) support ACPI STR3
mode. If a device does not, it might wake the rest of the machine. Which
is what you describe.

STR1 is a lesser mode of power savings and while still requiring an ACPI
compliant PC, it is more compatible with less tolerant hardware and
drivers than STR3.

(Older machines used APM instead of ACPI Suspend, I doubt your HP uses APM)

Do not confuse any of these modes with ACPI STR4, which is suspend to
disk. This creates a HDD file that is a snapshot of your current RAM
State. This is the lowest energy level next to off, and arguably the
most technically robust and stable use of all the ACPI Suspend Modes.

All of that backstory is merely to alter you to the myriad of
possibilities that could be causing your machine power cycle. I suggest
you fiddle in the BIOS and find out precisely which power saving modes
your BIOS supports, and then find out which mode works best.

If you think you are savvy enough to troubleshoot this yourself, I
suggest that once you know which mode you want working, go and disable,
one at a time, every unused device until the sleep mode works properly.

Disable serial ports, any network device, parallel ports, any outbound
request for anything, remotes, USB ports, screen savers, anything that
might make the PC do anything...

The good news is, you very well might find the issue and fix it, the bad
news is, that's very unlikely: ACPI STR issues are the single most non
fatal solutionless PC issues of yesterday and today, the standards for
operation are not enforced well enough.
