Best video card for The Sims! (2D vs 3D)
Hello
Someone I know has a Dell with the following specs Pentium III 866Mhz i815 Intel/Dell motherboard Geforce2 GTS 32MB (Dell) (latest drivers) Sound Blaster Live! value Windows XP She likes to play The Sims!, and wants it to run a little smoother. I was thinking of trading her my Radeon VE 64MB sgram card, thinking that the Radeon VE would have better 2D performance, therefore making The Sims! games play smoother. I know the Geforce2 will have better 3D performance and hardware T&L, but doesn't the Radeon have better 2D performance? And doesn't The Sims! rely more on 2D performance? Or, better yet, if she wants to spend a few bucks, I was thinking of replacing the existing GForce2 with either a GForce4 TI 4200 64MB, or a GeForce FX 5200 64MB. I know the *4 TI 4200 benchmarks higher than the FX 5200. But the *FX 5200 is cheaper, and is supposed to be able to take better advantage of DirectX 9.0 optimizations, which may give it a higher benchmark in future games. Thanks in advance for any advice Ed |
