Quite. I'd be more than happy to "roll my own", but for one problem -
if there were to be any problems, I'd not have available a ready
supply of components to swap out for fault-finding. And buying in
extras would rapidly use up any money saved in the first place by
home-building. Even a crummy commercial outfit has that advantage
over the one-off would-be system builder.

Which is why I've taken to selecting all the components from one
supplier, then asking them to assemble it ...

dell are the new IBM - as arrogant as hell

i phoned to ask for the part number of component i needed for an optiplex
and talk about the spanish inqisition

i was appalled at their attitude and approach
