OKI Scancopier
Hi group,
I have a problem with my OKI S700 Scancopier, Here in my own little business we have 4 pc's, alle running Win XP Pro SP2. On 3 of these computers the scanner works fine, no problem, but on #4 - and it has to be connected to this one - it does not... Actually no scanner will work here. When connected to the USB port the computer finds the scanner, and then installs drivers. In Controlpanel/Scanners the scanner is 'visible' but in properties it says 'not available'. There is a program called "S700 Scancopier Printer Profile Utility", that connects to the scanner without any problems. I am guessing there is some kind of TWAIN problem going on, but I cant find out where/why/what. Not long ago I formatted the pc, and reinstalled everything. For a while there I could actually use the scanner, but now it is dead again. I guess there must be one of my programs that has made a problem, one that was not yet installed when I tested the scanner. But I dont know which one? Have anyone heard anything about a similiar problem?? I have asked OKI here en Denmark, and they never heard of a problem with this scanner. I have had a technician here to check it, and he just saud that since the scanner worked fine on the other pc's it was my computer that was faulty. Then he took og again (and billed med 200USD).... Please - anyone?? Software installed is: Corel Graphics Suite 11 Adobe Illustrator CS Adobe InDesign CS (could it be this program making trouble) Adobe PhotoShop 7 MS Office XP w/FrontPage (SP3) Cadlink Signlab 6.1 Etc. Best regards Søren Johansen - Idé-Sign |

Best regards Søren Johansen - Idé-Sign On the PC that has the problem, look with Windows Explorer in C:\Windows for the four TWAIN files that are necessary. The four files a Twain.dll version 1.7.0.0 TWAIN_32.DLL version 1.7.1.0 TWUNK_16.EXE version 1.7.0.0 TWUNK_32.EXE version 1.7.1.0 Look at the properties of each file. They all should be version 1.7.x.x. where x is either 0 or 1. Look at C:\Windows\TWAIN.LOG (text file). If everything is working OK, it contains: TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTwunk ::AppInitialize - Reset Log TWAIN_32.DLL - MESSAGE - CTwunk ::OpenServer - Starting Thunker TWUNK_16.EXE - MESSAGE - Twunk --WinMain - Posting Startup Complete To Twain Twain.log is recreated each time TWAIN is used. If these four file are not the same versions, they can be Expanded from the Windows XP CD. There is help in XP to explain how to expand and extract files from the Window XP CD. You can also copy the four files from another working Windows XP machine. Remember, these are Windows System files, so you can really mess up the system if you do it wrong. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |

Any further help would be greatly appreciated. Best regards Søren |

Strange that you do not have a Twain.log file. As far as I know the twain log is generated every time the TWAIN system is used by Windows. If you are not using TWAIN then no Twain log. (You could be using WIA). Another thing to look for is the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) service. To see if it is running, StartRun. Type msconfigenter which will bring up the System Configuration Utility. Click the Services Tab and look for Windows Image Acquisition (WIA), It should be Checked and Running. Have you completely re-installed all of the OKI software. From what I have been reading, the Scancopier is part of a whole system of printer, fax and scanner. If you have installed all the OKI software, then do it again on the not working PC. Sometimes software just does not install correctly the first time. Many things have to work correctly for windows software to work without problems. All it takes for an error is one bad read of the CD. Or some strange problem with Windows XP. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |

I was told by the technician that I had to install UniMessage Pro. I did so, but it makes no difference. On the other pc's I use the scanner works fine with and without UniMessage.... I am using the scanner to 'convert' my OKI C5400 Color Laser Printer to copier. That works great (parallel cable between scanner and printer). But then I also need it to function as a normal flatbed scanner, and it CAN, but not on the machine I need it to.... I dont know what might be the problem... Søren |

The Printer port (LPT1) should be a ECP Printer Port. There has be a difference in the installation of Windows or the Scanner software or the Hardware of the computer that will not work. Find out what the difference is and you have a better chance of making the thing work. -- CSM1 http://www.carlmcmillan.com -- |
