Default MSI NX 6800 Ultra

I just received this card this evening, and tried to install it

AMD 64 X 53
1 Gig Ram
Asus SK8V MOBO
XP
550 Power supply.

This is a Nivida 6800 Ultra 256 MEG. I cleaned off the old drivers,
installed the new card, and fired it up. I got a very low resolution in the
beginning 800X600. Then I set the resolution to 1024x768 and after I
restarted, I got intermittent haze on startup, and then multicolored
vertical lines on the desktop. I could see my icons, but they were unclear
and I could not click on then. Also the machine kept hanging, crashing,
freezing and restarting. This problem went away when I reinstalled my old
TI4600 128 MEG. Any ideas? I hope this is enough information to diagnoses?
