memtestX86 question
One of my systems has gotten a bit flakey so I'm going through all of the
usual tests to find out what is causing the difficulties. I was suspicious of a stick of RAM. The system in question has a matched pair of CAS 2.5 256meg sticks of crucial PC-133. With two slots populated, the errors were too numerous to mention. I pulled the suspect stick of RAM. Well, testing the remaining stick gave results of two errors on test 5 on the first pass, but in 10 more passes, there were no subsequent errors in test 5 or anywhere else. So, I have 1 pass in 11 (in fact the first pass of 11 passes) that produced a pair of errors in the same test, but I have 10 passes after that with no errors in any test. If it was your system, what would you think about that result? Should the RAM be suspect because of the two initial errors, or would ten passes after that being error free make you think that stick is A-OK? |

Hi, I only just started to use Memtest myself so I am no expert, but if it were me I would test again. Its a pain when you get a test anomaly. Just relax your timings and start testing again with one stick at a time then try for two sticks, then try to increase your mem timings. If it is at all possible try the *defective* stick in another PC. . as your problem may actually be defective memory controller on the mobo (unlikely but possible!) Wayne ][ |

After booting into Memtest, press "C" "2" "3" and "Enter" to run the extended tests. Test #11 is very extensive. If the suspect module passes two loops, I'd consider it useable. Are you running these test at stock speed with standard timings or overclocking ? -- Winerr 00B - Push Error; Removing Files to Make Room for Advertisement |
