Possible solution to Windows Explorer not remembering your folderview settings
I had the above problem on a new install of XP SP2. You could go into a
folder in Windows Explorer and change the view from details to thumbnails (as an example). Then when you closed the folder and reopened it the view was back to details. Didn't seem to matter if you used the view settings to make all folders the same or anything else. Also tried the registry edits of the shell and shell open, bag mru keys. That didn't have any effect either. Seems that this is a widespread problem and is also cropping up in Vista. Well today I was playing around and discovered a way to apply the view you want and have it STAY. Instead of using windows explorer to visit the files I double clicked the "My Computer" icon and wandered around a bit. Discovered that if I went into a folder, set the view I wanted and then closed it that it stayed that way. If I then use Explorer to view the folder/files they are still set the way I wanted them. Maybe it is a way to get around the problem. -- Steve W.
