I'd like to spend somewhere below $500, though below $200 would be nice if the extra money won't make a meaningful difference in most real-life situations. Nvidia FX5900, Nvidia make far superior drivers for Linux, while Ati rely on the user community to write them. This is completely false for any of the last two generations of Radeon... The Radeon 8500 and up are extremely well supported under closed source drivers from ATI. Can you play UT2003 with the Ati drivers ? Yes... At least as well, if not better than, as I could with my GF3. The nvidia binary drivers would cause XFree86 to hang intermittantly, needing to reboot. I couldn't use the XFree86 nv driver because it *does not* support dual head. I installed an ati radeon 7000 and the XFree86 ati drivers are *much* better than the nv driver. |
