Default How much is the amount of memory important?

I have two graphic cards, but I am in doubt about what is the best:

ASUS NVidia Geforce 9600GT/512M
and
XFX NVidia Geforce 9500GT/1GB

Obviously the 9600GT is better than 9500GT, but the 9500GT that I have
is equipped with 1GB (DDR2) of memory, while the 9600GT has only 512MB
(DDR3).
Is more important the amount of memory or the general speed and quality?
In the first case the XFX 9500GT/1GB is better, in the second case the
Asus 9600GT/512MB is better.
Can anybody give me his opinion?

Since you have both graphics cards, why not run tests on each? That way you
will not have to rely on opinion. And if you post the results here, neither
will we.

One difference between a 512MB and a 1GB video card is that,
if you have 4GB of system RAM, the available RAM will be
reduced by the additional 512MB of memory address space used
by the 1GB card.

A poor performing 128bit card with 1024Mb of very slow DDR2 at 800Mhz.
A decent perfroming 256bit card with 512Mb of DDR3 at 1800Mhz
Did you read the specs at all?
