Default Can a Duron on an nforce2 400 run at 266fsb?

u will have to unlock the cpu multipliers but i dont see why that chip
wont run even a 200mhz fsb with a low enough multiplier.

Hi,

Can I set the fsb on an nforce2 400 mobo to 266 (or even 333) if I have
a Duron 1.2GHz installed?

I'm assuming that since the CPU core isn't being changed, this isn't
really 'overclocking', as the memory (333MHz crucial stuff) isn't going
over spec, and the CPU can be set close to 1.2GHz with multipliers (I
don't wannta overclock until I get the hsf properly set with sandpaper
and some thermal paste.)

it's based on the palomino core, which likely won't do 200mhz

My RAM only goes upto 333 (166 x 2) anyway

even if you drop the multiplier really low?

The default setting for 1.2 Duron is 100 x 12. If the motherboard supports
a 3/4 ratio of 100 cpu / 133 memory then it may work - and what I have seen
of nforce boards I would have thought there was such an option - if you can
do a 3/5 ratio I do not know, but maybe, the boards are versatile and with
the percentages and ratios you may be able to do it.

When I had my Duron 1.2, I do not think I ever got the cpu to run over
123Mhz bus speed - which took it up to 1474Mhz, my motherboard did not allow
a 3/4 ratio so I never tried running it out of synch.

but then I never tried seeing how fast the fsb would go...
so only two ways to find out really - search the internet - and try it and
see - but unlocking my Duron was easy - just involved the use of a pencil,
