Pretty low throughput. A Ti4200 is comparable to an 8500LE.....128bit memory paths 250Mhz core, 250Mhz memory. A decent performer, but limited to DX8.1.....but this isn't a big deal. I'm underwhelmed with the visual differences that come with DX9. Just upgraded from a 128Mb Radeon 8500 to a 9800 Pro, and the speed difference is huge, but visually in the 3 or 4 DX9 titles I have there's virtually no difference. |

Er, no, a GF3 is comparable to an 8500LE. A GF4 Ti4200 is significantly
faster (on the order of 40%). Don't worry about DX9 features of the 9600SE. Both the Ti4200 and 9600SE will be quite slow in desirable DX9 games anyway. -- "War is the continuation of politics by other means. check this link for an accurate (and less argumentative

A full blown 8500 is still about 25% slower than the Ti4200. And when the 8500 was NEW, it lost out to the GF3 series of cards due to driver issues which were not resolved until ATI got their act togther with the 9700Pro. http://www20.graphics.tomshardware.c...ournament_2003 55fps (4200) vs 38fps (8500)... a bit of a big difference....? And the 8500LE is more like a 9200... which is around 30fps... but still slightly faster than the 9600SE! 55fps (4200) vs 38fps (8500)... a bit of a big difference....? And the 8500LE is more like a 9200... which is around 30fps... but still slightly faster than the 9600SE! (Bwahaha) Stats like these depend a hell of a lot from the site you take them. A full bore 8500 is the equal of a Ti4200 in many independant bechmarks...... http://www.slcentral.com/c/h/r/ati/r...0064/page5.php http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardwar...211_1013941__8 http://www.active-hardware.com/engli...eon-8500-4.htm Notice in all of these the 8500 is being compared with Ti4400 and 4600 cards. These do outperform it, but by 10% or less. These also outperform the Ti4200 by 10% or so as well. I've owned several variants of the 8500 series and the best benchmark they're done on my Barton 3200 is 11,512 in 3DMark01 and 2451 in 3DMark03. This at 300/600 clocks with 3.7 drivers. Show me any stats where a Ti4200 beats this by the 25% margin you claim or even 10%. A Ti4200 that does in excess of 13,000 on 3DMark? They are equivalent cards. I have not owned a Ti4200. I doubt if you've owned an 8500. This is not relevant to the discussion. |

I doubt if you've owned an 8500. This is not relevant to the discussion. Lets go to this page: http://www.sharkyextreme.com/hardwar...211_1013941__6 3DMark is a fine benchmark program, but its still not a "game" But in the game Quake3, none of the 8500s are able to out-run a GF3-Ti500, and only slightly faster than the GF3-Ti200. This review is over 2 years old. The GF4 Cards were VERY new and the drivers were not optimized yet. The Toms Hardware review is more recent. The the other link you provided: http://www.active-hardware.com/engli...eon-8500-4.htm Its not what I would call complete... but it too is also 2 years old and they are comparing basic games. The issues of the older Radeon line was drivers that were recently fix with the R9000 series. The R8500 continued to LOSE to the GF3 and obviously the GF4Ti cards. If the 8500 was THAT good in reliability, the Ti4200 would have not sold as well as it did (a very popular card) and the GF3 and GF2 lines would have been murdered. Luckily, the 9700 & 9500 were able to out-run Nvidia in most games. Still, ATI's weakness is the OpenGl area. - - - - - Remember: In the USA - it is dangeroud to draw or write about Heir Bush in a negative way.
