Default HP 1220C just blinks

The Cartridge LED blinks soon after you turn on the printer, just after the
printer gets through its power-on tests. The ink cartridge indicated when I
open the cover is the color cartridge. The cartridge is recent, but the date
on the cartridge is 2004. (The cartridge is a generic no-name remanufactured
one, with p/n NH-R6578.) Is there a "clock" in this cartridge's chip which
will make the cartridge not useable after X number of years?

I pulled both cartridges and cleaned all contacts in the carriage and on both
cartridges. No joy.

Suggestions?

Thanks,
Dave

Dave
So far as I know there are no clocks in any HP ink cartridge. I assume the same
applies to HP compatibles.
I suspect the cartridge is faulty, they can fail. I suggestyou ask for a refund
or replacement.

There is no clock in the cartrdige, and the printer has no idea about the
date of the cartrdgie. The date on the cartrdige is two years from the
original manufacture date, so this cartrdige really is five years old.

Get a fresh cartridge. While you are at it check out:
http://www.hp.com/sbso/product/suppl...bility_ink.pdf,
particularly chart 6 on page 14. You really do get what you pay for....

Thanks, Bob. Now I know (c:

But there is a chip in these cartridges, yes? So these cannot be refilled,
nor can CIS ink be used?.

I replaced the color cartridge after the driver reported that "this cartridge
is not compatible with the printer". It prints beautifully, now.

I'd like to read it but that URL results in "The page you requested cannot be
found". Try again?

Thanks,
Dave

No, that is not correct. There is not a "chip" or other mechanism to
prevent refilling on either the #45 or #78 cartridge.

It worked for me... You could try
http://www.hp.com/united-states/cons...nk_refill.html or
http://h71036.www7.hp.com/hho/cache/...0-225-121.html which have a
similar message but a bit less data.

The original URL now works. I read the document and note that the tests it
describes are comparing HP cartridges to remanufactured ones. Likely this is
because back then (2003) no new 3rd party cartridges were being manufactured.
I suspect the large number of failures were due to a used cartridge failing
with so many hours on it (original life plus 2nd life).

I'd be interested to see how new HP cartridges compare to the new (not
remanufactured) cartridges now available.

Thanks,
