Default GeForce 4200ti freeze-up: At wit's very end.

Suffering, suffering. Any help would be appreciated.

I recently installed Windows XP and have had serious problems with my
vid card. Every time I try to run any 3D type application, the screen
freezes except for the mouse pointer, which I can move around.
Nothing changes for a long time. If I click a few times (3), there is
a system beep and then the mouse freezes too. When I reboot, I cannot
find any mention in the error log, although perhaps I am not looking
in the right place.

This happens not only with Direct3D apps (a la DxDiag tests), but ALSO
DirectDraw (a la Dx Diag test).

I have the latest Nvidia drivers, latest VIA drivers, a fresh system
install, tried every AGP setting, tested my RAM.

Is it the power supply? 250W is a bit low, but Antecs are supposed to
be pretty solid. Also, I've tried unplugging every unnecessary item
(PCI cards, CD drives, etc.) and had the exact same behavior.

Is it an IRQ conflict? XP dumped the card in with the network, sound,
and ACPI, but I can't change it. A problem?

Relevant System details:
Athlon 900MHz
Asylum GeForce 4200 TI 64MB
Gigabyte GA-7ZX (rev 1) mobo
256MB RAM
Antec 250W PSU

Windows XP SP1
DirectX 9.0b (same prob with 8.0)
Nvidia drivers 45.23 (latest) (same prob with 30.82, 28.84)

Any ideas?

And many thanks in advance.
Tim

the VIA ****... I don't install anything from them. All you need is the =
WinXP CD and Winupdate :-)

Check the cooler of the videocard, unmount put thermal grease if =
necesary, and look if the fan works fine
