Default aiw 9800 is it a $200+ waste

Reading up on it b4 buying I was under the impression the 9800 did both analog
and HDTV. Now after weeks of reading it appears that they released the HDTV
wonder that does the same as the AIW 9800 for $200.00 less.
Right or wrong ?

NON of the current AIW products recieves HDTV. They do have HD output
capability (so you can game aon your big screen!) but the TV tuner is
analog only.

How to Buy The HDTV WONDER and Accessories

The HDTV WONDER PCI card at www.ati.com or at leading electronics retailers in a variety of combinations. The product is found packaged with a number of ALL-IN-WONDER® 9600 and above class graphics cards and is also available for standalone purchase.

That's the quote from ATI on this page
http://www.ati.com/products/hdtvwonder/features.html that made me get the 9800.
I had to assume from that statement that the HDTV card was also in the 9800
box. So either it's invisible or the statements lying. Cause I didn't see it in
my box.

And I'm pretty sure 9800 is a bigger number than 9600.
Would this be bait and switch ?

No. "A number of" means, "A number of". As in 1 or more. Not ALL. That
would be "ALL". If you purchased an AIW 9800 based on that statement,
without checking whether the box included the kit or not... then thats your
mistake. I think the statement is quite clear enough.

The HDTV Wonder is a TV tuner card that you ADD to your current Video card.
You have to buy something like a 9800 Pro or such and the HDTV wonder seprate.
They havent released a HDTV AIW combo TV/VIdeo card yet.

So it's not bait and switch it's a pig in a poke. you pay your money and maybe
you'll get what you wanted and maybe you won't ?
Not exactly like you can check a box sitting on one of ATI's shelves in Canada.
This ad existed a few weeks back when I got this 9800.

When was the last time you got something for nothing? If it doesn't say you
get it, you don't get it.

That's what this is all about. The text tells me the

Aha it's in 9600, 9700 , 9800. It doesn't say it's in SOME packages and not in
others.
A number couldn't be much more vague.

I'm sure some lawyer could say it's just vague to sell off old equipment.

What is it with people in this group who fail to comprehend English?

"The product is found packaged with a number of"

As in: NOT ALL

How hard is it?

Hi Husky,

So it's not bait and switch it's a pig in a poke. you pay your money and maybe
you'll get what you wanted and maybe you won't ?

no, there are three boxes on the shelf.

The first is labeled "contains AIW 9600" (cost $xxx), the second is
labeled "contains HDTV Wonder" (cost $yyy) and the third is labeled
"contains AIW 9600 and HDTV Wonder" (cost $xxx+yyy-zz, with zz somewhere
between 0 and 50).

Just open your eyes.

Klaus
