Default Running 7600 GS 256 - Anything faster ?

I'm running a 7600 GS 256 PCIE ( no fan ) and was looking for the group's
best advice as to what I can replace it with that will be faster. It's
mandatory that it doesn't have a fan as my machine is really dead quiet and
I'd like to keep it that way. Running Vista on a Pentium D with a Windows
Experience score of 4.3 ( the gaming graphics is the lowest score ) so I'd
like to bump it up to close to 5 as I play Flight Simulator every now and
then.

Thanks for your help.

Well, perhaps you better stay with the card you have if you don't want a GPU
fan. But the fan on my EVGA 8800 GT is normally quieter than the power
supply fan or the nVidia 680i SLI chipset fan; even with the case side
removed. That, or for playing a Flight Simulator, headphones would be
authentic B^)

And I'd expect the 8600 GT to be even quieter.

Sparkle has a passively cooled 8800GT. But with anything that is
passively cooled, expect high temps. If I paid a decent sum for
a card like this, I would want to arrange some amount of cooling for
it. Perhaps you could set it up, such that additional cooling was
added only while gaming (either temp dependent fans or switch
controlled fans).

Other options include using water cooling (for a price, you can find
video cards that are already equipped with water blocks), and running hoses
out of the room, to a radiator and fans. I understand some people
do that, to move the cooling noise outside their room. You can find a
wealth of information on cooling, in the various specialty forums here.
For example, "Liquid Cooling" forum has some primers available, for people
new to liquid cooling.

_____

I don't do flight simulators so my advice is to find someone who has a
similar video card and who does use the same Flight Simulator. My feeling
would be that while the 8500 GT is nicely priced, it might not have the
performance you want. One more thing to consider if you want to go with a
fanless video card. You already have 'silent' system, probably at the cost
of air flow - so the temperatures inside the case may be higher than is
strictly good for system health. That implies the need for better than
average cooling on the video card, not less than average.

I had a 7950GT with no fan from XFX, ran well, that ought to get you
close to 5... that 7600 is sort of the suck...

First thought, stop top-posting.

Second thought, you'd be going backwards. We know in terms of DX9 the
8600GTS is in 7900GS territory and the 8600GT is in 7600GT territory. Well,
the 8500GT has half the fill rate of the 8600GT. I haven't crunched any
numbers but I reckon its DX9 performance could possiblybe lower than your
7600GS.

Here's a rule of thumb for everybody: when buying an Nvidia card for 3D
gaming ensure the second digit in its model number is at least a "6".
