Default for those wondering about dual core bios

Last night I put together

4400+
ABit Fatal1ty SLI
4GB DDR400 Extreme Performance
MSI 6800 PCI-E16

and it is FAST (much faster than my 3200+ 1M/754). The BIOS had not been
updated for dual core so the ABit only saw one cpu that it listed as "AMD
Hammer Family - Model Unknown", but flashing went flawlessly so those
concerned about the presumed catch-22 situation of dual core bios updating
need not worry. The mobo will see the first cpu and allow a flash to dual
core. Once flashed to the latest bios, it's reported in Windows as "AMD
Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4400+". I got tired of waiting for the
4800+ supplies and grabbed a 4400+ for $628, about 60% of the price of a
4800+ so I spent the leftover on ram. I'm hoping I can OC this to
2.4....has anyone done it with this combination of cpu/mobo/video/stock
HSF? I'm getting idle temps of 27C and load temps of 40C so I assume some
overclocking is possible. My case has very good air flow. My ram is Patriot
2.0 Extreme Performance 1Gx4, with head spreaders. CPU-Z reports two of the
ram as Kingston and the other two as Unknown. I'm sure the video card is
overclockable. I've not played with any overclocking yet...thought I'd ask
and see what others had to say first. Is this cpu capable of 2.4 without
extra cooling? It has a manufacturing date of May 25, 2005.

XP32/sp2 reports only 2.75GB total physical ram, even with the /3GB or /4GT
switches, but bios and CPU-Z report the full 4GB. Any ideas why XP is
telling me 2.75GB? I did a fresh install, btw. XP64/sp1 sees all of it, as
expected.

My other problem: cpu throttling doesn't appear to be working (no, I'm not
using SLI mode, yet).

I'm very pleased with this cpu and glad I didn't get the 4800+ now. It's
just too expensive. The 4400+ can't possible feel that much slower and
costs a lot less.

If the BIOS knows Winchester or later.

Why would you need to overclock that ? You have almost the fastest mashine
around ! What would you get now, 120frames in far cry instead of 110 !
