Default No Keyboard Present error

My A7N8X deluxe no longer recognizes the keyboard. I figured the PS/2
connection was bad when two different keyboards did not work. I just
tried a USB keyboard and I still have the problem.
Any idea of how to get through the POST error that does not allow the
PC to progress past the POST?

Thanks, ...Bfried

Have you checked to see if your board offers something called "USB Legacy
Support". When enabled, this is suppose to allow USB keyboards and mice to
function like they are hooked to the PS/2 ports.

Sorry if this was not helpful. I don't have your board so I cannot "play" to
see if USB keyboards would work for me.

Ummmm..........if POST halts due to a no keyboard error how do you propose
to get into the BIOS setup program in order to make those changes?

The truth is out there. You just have to look in the right places and ask
the right questions.

Most likely your PS/2 keyboard has failed. Without BIOS support for a USB
keyboard being enabled you need to get another new or working PS/2 keyboard
to test with. If the new PS/2 keyboard works then you know your old keyboard
has most likely failed.

If the new keyboard works then I suggest you enable BIOS support for a USB
keyboard. That will allow you to use a USB based keyboard in the future if
your PS/2 based keyboard dies again.

If you can't get any keyboard to work, then there is no way that I know of
to get into the BIOS and configure it to bypass the Keyboard check duing
boot-up.
Time for an RMA/replacement of the board I'm afraid, as it's next to useless
without a working keyboard interface.

You could try Clearing the CMOS with the CLRTC jumper to reset the BIOS to
defaults, but it probably won't do any good if the keyboard interface is
fried. By some remote chance it could enable the USB legacy setting and
allow the USB keyboard to work in the BIOS.
It might even set it to bypass the keyboard error if you're really, really
lucky.....
Still wont get past the problem of a dead keyboard interface.
