MIR's suck. The NY Times had an investigative report about rebates maybe a year
ago. The deals between sellers and the rebate clearing houses establish quotas for rebates that will be honored, and, yes, not 100%. So the rebate clearing houses find every excuse possible to reject a rebate. If 2GB for $67 without rebate is a good seal, go for it and consider the $30 a gift when received... Ben Myers Ben, good advice. I'm going to be dealing with a rebate now but I try to avoid them if possible. I've had good luck with all, but one of them did lie to me until I was able to proof my case (certif. mail). Aside from whether you get them is that they purposely (I think) take 8 to 10 weeks to come back to you which to me is ridiculous. I suppose they hope you will forget (even if you sent the proper paper work) so should they not pay you, you do nothing and they benefit from your loss. I've read and started to see a lot of vendors trying to get away from the rebates and seem to even advertise a plug about this, in their ads. Anyway Ben, your advice is best. Try to avoid them if possible and if not, your gift idea is worthy. |

Only successful rebates for me have been with Staples, twice. At least they do
not make you fuss with mailing in receipts and filling in and mailing stupid forms. Instead, they have an online rebate system where you enter in the serial number of the receipt plus your name and address. One time the rebate check arrived pretty quickly. The second time, after a couple months the rebate check still had not arrive, so I went online to their web site and nagged them. Voila! Like magic, the check appeared 4 or 5 days later. Even so, I bought at Staples only because they had good prices without rebate... Staples indeed the easiest, but others work fine. I can never understand why folks have so many problems. I like the cheap cash-out-the-door price as much as anyone, but I have done at least 100 rebates over the years. I recall 4 problems (Samsung Printer, Symantec, Staples Easy Rebate, and a Fry's) All resolved with a phone call or an email, got paid 100% of rebates sent. Best Regards, Bob Johnson |

Unfortunately I have to deal with another rebate because newegg.com had a good price on the laserjet printer I just bought but it has a $150 rebate which is too much to ignor so I'll deal with that and hope for the best. You can bet I will mail it in certified mail to help my cause tho it isn't a guarantee of success but it helps. Changing topics, I just put 2 gigs ram (dual channel) in this laptop I'm using (winxp currently). It was easy doing the under the keyboard thing for me. Actually did two E1405 laptops and it recognized the new ram right away. Now to sell the old 512meg '4200 chips (4 of them). I don't expect to see much difference in speed now but upgraded in case I go to Vista next year. Not really sure I will go to Vista but I thought for the price of ram, what the heck. I even bought more ram for the new laserjet (maxed it out) just to try to avoid any future problems (ram is actually on backorder but I'm not in any rush so no problem). I can't believe that ram was less than one tenth the going rate elsewhere and this is from kingston.com. Ok, I'll stop bs'ing now g (forgive me please) !!! |

I guess I've been lucky in that I've received all the rebates I've mailed in for, but there is a long wait. |
