Default 8800GTS and 3D glasses?

Was anything done to provide drivers or support for 8800GTS (g92) to
work with 3D glasses? Last I checked (a year ago), NVidia dumped all
3D support in favor of overpriced 3D monitor. I used to be able to
get away on 7900GS before I upgraded to 8800GTS but the last 3D
glasses driver predates 8800GTS and won't work with current video
driver. Older video driver doesn't have 8800GTS support so I can't
match up version.

Is there any sneaky trick or 3rd party driver that puts 3D glasses
support back in with current video cards?

TIA

Here's a link to the latest nvidia 3d stereo drivers, released in march

Hope this helps

As the OP stated, Nvidia now only support Zalman 3D monitors or anaglyph
displays. The last cards that could be used with Stereo shutter glasses was
the 7600 AGP's (and an older matched pair of drivers / 3D stereo drivers.
It is ironic that, just as video cards became powerful enough to really do
justice to 3D stereo, the rising popularity of LCD monitors (and scarcity of
CRT monitors) meant that is was not worth Nvidia supporting shutter glasses
anymore. But LCD shutter glasses are now being increasingly used in Cinemas
to view 3D films, and it is basicaly the same techology. The pinnacle of
shutter glasses in games had to be Farcry when it was first out and Need for
Speed Most wanted - looked stunning in 3D. Any newer games just won't run on
the aged rigs...

Is there no VESA-Bios inside of a 8800-GPU?

VBE_3 Featu
Stereoscopic display support for liquid crystal(LC) shutter glases

Can anybody help me to check out if modern cards support a VESA-Bios?

A VESA-test is very simple(using DOS or a DOS-box of WindowsXP):

debug
-a
mov ax,4f00
mov di,200
int 10

-g=cs:100 108

Now the cpu-register(a part of them) will be list and if the lower part of
the AX-Register contains 4F and the higher part 00, than there is a
VESA-BIOS inside.

AX=004F .....

If there is a VESA-bios and AX=004F, than we can list the (major-)versions
number of the vesa-bios:

-d es:205 L1

And the minor-versions-number:

-d es:204 L1

To quit debug:

-q

Many thanks.

_____

Apples and oranges. The difference being that, unlike a 3D game, a movie is
completely pre-rendered, and it is trivial to use two projectors with 90
rotated polarized light images and polarized decoder filters with 90 degree
protestation in passive glasses or a single projector with a double or
quadruple frame rate with alternate frames seen by each eye as controlled by
LCD shutter glasses.

And what will 3D games really be worth? Immersive virtual reality, where
you look through a window INTO a scene, and the POV tracks with your head
position, now THAT will really be something. Penultimately there will be no
display screen, just goggles. And ultimately, no goggles either. And
overlays on reality. But just think of the processing power needed for that
kind of real time rendering.

It seems some if not all current video card still supports 3D glasses.
So all I need is a driver that drives the 3D glasses and turn the 3D
games into 3D enviroment for the glasses. I don't have any
programming experience to either update the old 3D driver from NVidia
or create custom version from scratch.

Ah thank you very much. Your card include a VBE 3.0-bios.

Personaly i have no shutter glasses.

The background of my interest is an artikel in the german CīT-Magazin
and their prognose that there is no garantie that modern PCIe-videocards
provide a vesa bios anytime longer.

I use the vesa-bios(VBE3.0 like my NV4Ti4200) interface only under a pur
DOS enviroment in the Unrealmode, to switch to an other videomode with own
refreshrate und to use hardware triple buffering for screen filled and
flickerfree movements, with an linear acess of those videobuffers.

It seems some if not all current video card still supports 3D glasses.

vbe3.pdf-Page 9 Using Stereoscopic Liquid....:
......and VBE 3.0 defines the software interface necessary to allow
applications to use these new hardware features....
....
There are two methods of performing hardware stereoscopic page flipping
with VBE 3.0...
....
Please check the mode information ModeAtributes field bit D12 to see if
dual display start addressing is supported.

So all I need is a driver that drives the 3D glasses and turn the 3D
games into 3D enviroment for the glasses.

I think those windows driver donīt need to use a vesa bios to provide
3D glasses-

I don't have any
programming experience to either update the old 3D driver from NVidia
or create custom version from scratch.

Me too.

Dirk
