Hi,

Basically it's the chip that is not being recognized from the aftermarket
cartridge. It could simply be a bad chip or one that was handled and touched
a lot that either got static or hand oils on it. If you were to exchange
chips from the old Epson cartridge to the new one you would have no trouble
in using the aftermarket ink cartridge. However, you would also have to
reset the original Epson chip with a chip resetter.
If you are going to use a CIS then you will want to call the company you
intend to purchase it from and certify that their cartridges and auto reset
chips can in fact work with the 340.

So what I'm saying is that there is something wrong with the yellow chip on
the third party cartridge. If you were to take the yellow chip off of the
original Epson cartridge and put that chip on the aftermarket yellow
cartridge, once it's reset, you would be able to use the new yellow. This
sometimes happens to aftermarket chips but can often be remedied by using
the original Epson chip by substituting it onto the aftermarket cartridge
and then resetting. To put it bluntly they are delicate. Avoid touching the
face of them.
Removal is done with a sharp exacto knife. Using a little plastic glue on
the inside edges of the cartridge is enough to hold the chip in place. Under
no circumstances consider using the cartridge without the chip as the chip
probes in the printer will lock the cartridge in place and it will be
extremely difficult to remove the cartridge.

I apparently misunderstood the original post to think that this was the
first time this problem had occurred.
So from what you're saying you have been continuously running into the
problem ever since you have been using third party cartridges. How did you
overcome the problem so you could use the third party ink?

This sounds wild.
And just how many yellows have you gone through at this point? And how many
different aftermarket companies yellow ink have you tried?

I'm still suggesting that you get yourself a chip resetter and replace the
aftermarket company's chips with the original Epson yellow chip. The chips
can be reset over and over again and you simply remove the chip from your
old cartridge to install it on the new one. It still beats buying OEM ink.

I am suggesting he use Epson OEM ink carts that are designed for the
printer and produce the best results and ditch all of the generic stuff
that causes problems.

The chips
can be reset over and over again and you simply remove the chip from your
old cartridge to install it on the new one. It still beats buying OEM ink.
