Notice both the Tom's Hardware and the ATI banners, prominently displayed

in
the the images accompanying the text.

That's a clear indication of lack of objectivity right there, especially
concerning the former...

Therefore any anti-nvidia commentary is clearly marketing driven, factual

or
not. You can't have meaningful discussion from such a platform.

Herr Doktor Pabster is such a shameless whore...

If the technical issues are so compelling, why drape the flags of the
'founding funders' over the podium.

Good point.

What? That Valve coded it to work ****ty with anything but ATI cards?

That is potentially true.

That is potentially as true as there are pink invisible unicorns living on
Saturn. For one thing, Valve would have nothing to gain from something like
that, it would just alienate potential customers.

Second, Valve said they spent 5x more time optimizing for Nvidia
specifically (which still didn't help 52/5600 very much) than they did
optimizing the general path everybody else uses. You can choose to believe
they're lying of course, but then you'd be heading off deep into the land of
paranoia...

Valve suggests anyone believing they didn't optimize fairly should go ask
Microsoft, but hey, maybe Valve bought off M$ to lie for them? Who
knows?!?!?!?!?!?

We'll also know whether nVidia lied their asses off and misled everyone by
optimising their drivers for 3DMark2003.

Hm, I believe we already know that.

The thing is it's just about the performance of the games/benchmarks. They
have stretched the truth a bit when it comes to their architecture. When
the FX's first came out, Nvidia used language that led everyone to believe
the card was an 8 pipeline vid card with 1 texture unit per pipeline,
similar to the ATi Radeon series of cards. Turns out that wasn't quite
correct. It was actually a 4 pipeline card with 2 texture units per
pipeline. Great people thought, 4*2 = 8 so the FX cards will act like an 8
pipeline card even though it's not. Turns out that wasn't quite true. In
some, possibly most, situations the card acted as a 4 pipeline, 1 texture
per pipe card while the second texture unit was used for lord only knows
what which is a big reason why the card sucks in so many games/apps/benches.

Sad how far Nvidia has fallen really.

My personal opinion is that FX card owners need to file a class action
lawsuit against Nvidia.

I think you're right.

Based on the pure performance of the 5900Ultra in 3dMark03, most people
would choose the nVidia card given access to the funds.

If gaming turns out to be a different story, then some people are going to
be mightily ****ed.

You are forgetting something: The Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness game. It's
a DX9 game, considered the first one out actually. It's possible to run
this game in some sort of a benchmark mode or something. The FX series of
cards get their @sses handed to them in that as well. 3dmark2003, although
it is a mixture of DirectX 7 & 8, doesn't run all that well on FX cards
either. Their is ample evidence out the teh FX cards have problems and
Nvidia is having to release game specific drivers to make up for the
problems.

That is potentially true. However, when we get a few more DX9 games out
there, we'll know the answer.

We'll also know whether nVidia lied their asses off and misled everyone by
optimising their drivers for 3DMark2003.

Don't forget about ATi's tradeup program:

"The Robot" wrote in message

I have:

ASUS A7N2X Deluxe v2.0 nForce2 Mobo
512MB 333MHz Crucial DDR (should have spent the extra and got 400MHz -
f*ck!)
Athlon XP 1800 (Plan to replace with Barton 2500, and overclock to XP3200)
Crappy 17GB + 10GB drives (Plan to replace with SATA as soon as I need the
space)
MSI 128MB Ti4800SE (replaced by MSI when Ti4400 went poof)

When I get the Barton, it looks like I'l get the HL2 DX8 framerates in the
THW acticle. At that point I'll consider the 9600Pro or above.

It's quite early to say whether you should sell the 5900 Ultra, but now is
the best time, before eBay potentially fills up with them.

The Crucial 9800Pro is almost a giveaway, but I'm sure that the proceeds

of
your sale would easily give you access to the best 9800Pro cards on the
market.

In short, sell the *******.

Just out of curiosity "The Robot" what system do you have, and do you
think I should sell my 5900 Ultra to get a 9800 Pro

Don't forget about ATi's trade up program, it's at:

http://www.ati.com/buy/traderebate/tradeup.html

Looks like a pretty good deal. Wish I known about this when I ditched my
Nvidia Ti4600 and got my 9800 Pro. No big deal though, it was money well
spent.

BTW, does anyone know what are the future DX9 games that'll be available
in 2003/2004 ?
