Default Can I setup my two 500gb HDs to become one 1000gb?

Hi

I am running Windows 7 RC.

I have a server which has a 70gb HD for the OS, and two 500gb disks
for the server. Is it possible to configure the disks like in RAID, to
work as one single 1,000gb?

Thank you.

I think most RAID controllers have a "jbod" mode for that. It means
"just a bunch of disks," I think.

Uh, JBOD will not make multiple HDs appear as one HD. RAID-0 can be
used to make a pair of 500GB HDs appear to be a single 1TB HD. RAID-0
(a/k/a striping) will also deliver higher performance, but with lower
reliability.

I think every RAID controller supports RAID-0. And, many OSs (even some
from M$) support software RAID-0, and at a pretty small performance cost.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JBOD#Co...ion_.28SPAN.29

"For example, JBOD (Just a Bunch Of Disks) could combine
3 GB, 15 GB, 5.5 GB, and 12 GB drives into a logical drive
at 35.5 GB, which is often more useful than the individual
drives separately."

There is no defined meaning for "JBOD". The RAID level definitions
do not cover it. Some vendors mean APPEND-mode by it. Others
mean disk pass-through. Even other variants may exist.

Given that most cheaper RAID controllers are software RAID anyways.

You want RAID 0. Windows can do software RAID.

Thank you.
