Default ProSavage DDR 's 1.1 opengl

Hi,

am using ProSavage DDR integrated card with VIA chipset on a MSI V
motherboard. Discovered it only has 1.1 opengl. went on to download
the latest driver from s3 website. installed it. and then it turns out
it is only 1.1 opengl also.

Any advise on getting 1.4 opengl? thanks

You might do better to try comp.graphics.api.opengl.

I wouldnt bother. That card sucks, i should know, i was stupid enough to buy
a laptop with one in. OpenGL performance is appaling, DirectX is only
marginally better.

No it wouldn't.

comp.sys.ibm.pc.hardware.video would be a better choice.

The request was for a runtime driver. As you might note in the name
of the group, comp.graphics.api.opengl is aimed at programming and
development issues with the openGL API.

It's not THAT bad, just not appropriate for 3D gaming... still plenty fast
enough for most screensavers, DVDs, etc.

Could you point to comp.graphics.api.opengl's charter?

Nope. I'm not saying no, I won't. I'm saying no, I can't. I don't
even know if there is one.

I didn't say it was necessarily off topic there, but the majority of
the discussions are on how to program with OpenGL, differences in the
versions of the specification and discussions on the specs and
features themslves of the API versions -- and the occasional flame war
on D3D vs OpenGL. Hardware discussions are often ignored or are
referred. No official rules as far as I know. There's a faq, but it
mostly deals with programming issues that might come up about how to
use certain functions in OpenGL, nothing about what may or may not be
posted. That and the fact that the name of the group has API in it
kind of suggests that it's a programming group.

It just seemed counter productive to send the guy there because he's
not likely to find what he's looking for there.

I could still play Counter Strike: condition zero on it.

but the performance of the card under Need for speed 7 is bad compared
to my aging Geforce 2 MX

Buy a newer video card.
Built in S3/Via graphics don't even have a built-in T&L graphics engine.

First gen GeForce256 cards had hardware T&L , so don't expect much from
unichrome and the likes.
