Default Athlon XP 2100+ to mobile 2600+ worth the upgrage?

So I was not going to spend any more money on this system (Shuttle AN35 400
& 2x512 PC3500 RAM) but the mobile 2600+ might be a worthwhile upgrade,
especially if I can get about $40-50 for my 2100+ (with AMD fan/heatsink).

BTW, 2100+ is running very well at 210x10.

OK, here's what you do.
Sell the board, sink and chip and get a DFI Infinity, mobile Barton,
Thermalright SLK800-A and 38 x 80mm fan.

Why would i want a mobile board? why would i want to go from a dual
processor system to a single processor?

About the Athlon MP vs Athlon XP, the Athlon MP has more cache if i
remember correctly.

Now what is the difference between the Barton and the Athlon core is
what i'me researching now.

Also do you think its worth the wait instead to go with an Opteron
system? Or simply upgrade this one?

Thanks!

2400XP-M only has 256kb L2 cache as far as i know.
The barton 2600 has 512kb. Plus i don't have to start modding my cpu hehe.

Then you don't know very far.
All XP-M's are Bartons.

How is the overclocking with the mobile 2400+ ?

It seems that people have been able to run mobile 2500/2600+ up to
2.4/2.5GHz without too much trouble.
In fact, I can actually run my XP 2100+ close to 2.2GHz, but it runs quite
hot for my liking because I had to bump up the vcore to 1.75V to reach
stability with Prime95.

IMHO, extra $25 for 2600+ is worth the price to get faster & cooler CPU, but
if 2400+ can overclock almost as well as 2600+, then I rather not spend the
bucks (save for a new 64-bit system).

how does 2.GHz sound? they are the same chips. the only difference is the

week.

I am currently running a regular XP 2100+ at 2.1GHz already (210x10 @
1.625V)
Does not seem to make sense to switch to a XP-mobile 2400+ running at 2GHz.
What am I missing?

yuki
