tnt2 fan was dirty
Well,
My tnt2 was making quite a lot of noise. So I decide to take out the card and rip out the fan. In doing so I damaged/broke the fanblade... I looked at how it all worked and that it was dirty... blackstuff. It turns out I could have easily cleaned and oiled it and then I ll bet it would have worked just fine. There seemed to be also some weird white sticky stuff between the gpu and the 'heatsink'. I have decided to not describe how I could have cleaned it since that is not my job. That's the manufacturers job. I have thus decide to create a website to start boycotting: 1. Products with fans in them without a manual describing how to clean them. ( For now I just put in my tnt2 back since I doesn't seem to create that much heat... when it dies I ll buy a fanless video card since I am getting pretty sick of these fans without manuals how to clean them :P ) Skybuck. |

But isn't some dust too fine even for that? I remove the card, move to another room, then blast the HSF with compressed air (via the little straw) - enough to spin the fan. I then proceed to clear of dust from the rest of the card then return it to the case. Periodically the circuit board needs to be cleaned with a brush as a residue will settle on them, residue that seems immune to vacuums and compressed air. Not sure if that's the best way to clean them but it has worked for me. |
