External DVD Burner on USB 1.1
Hello everyone!
Wanted to ask for opinions in this group: I have an older HP e-PC 40 computer that lacks both space for a 5.25" device and USB2.0 I do like the PC 'cause it's small and silent but I would very much like to equip it with a DVD or at the very least a CD burner. Coincidentally, I do have a Sony DRU-510A device (2 x speed DVD 52xspeed CD if I remember correctly). If I buy one of those external 5.25" USB cases, is the throughput of USB1.1 interface going to be enough for DVD burning at 2xspeed? If anyone is familiar with this particular model of PC (HP e-PC 40), please let me know if they had a CD-RW (doubt they had DVD-R) drive option. Part number by chance? Thanks for all your suggestions! please let me know if they had a CD-RW (doubt they had DVD-R) drive It's looks like just a standard 5¼ drive with the front face piece taken off. You can probably even remove the tray piece from the old one and stick it (or glue it) on any new drive you get. Test it with a spare cd-rom first to see how you have to line it up. -- "I don't cheat to survive. I cheat to LIVE!!" - Alceryes "DA" wrote in message ... Hello everyone! The width of the unit is the same as 5.25" device, but both depth and length are so much less. I did take a look at laptop burners, both DVD and CD, and they look a bit bulkier than the regular read-only slimline CD-ROM. OTOH, I don't have too detailed a picture of a slimline DVD burner to tell if if fits the same rails/opening as this PC's regular CD-ROM. Also, it does not make sense to buy a DVD burner from this PC just to give it a try because the burner is actually more expensive than the PC itself! Still looking for some advice from someone familiar with those little PCs. Thanks!
