Hello Gerald,
Tried using CD Burner XP (btw - thanks for pointing it out!), and
here's the thing! It says that it "failed", but it didnt!! Isn't that
wierd!
I did a 1X write with "Test Write (Invalid for DVD Formats)" enabled.
[my drive is a 2X I think]. The test went off fine, but the write
failed right in the beginning (unlike Nero)... Later on, I just
happened to pop the DVD back in and it recognized the disk!
Anyhow, the error was as follows:
"Writing Error: (3) Error reserving DVD-R track/Session blocks.
Unknown error - use extended data for more information (1051). Error
Sense Data: SENSE KEY: 5 ASC: 30 ASCQ: 5"
Strange... but true!
Thanks again,
Sid

I've been using anAcerAspire 5000 notebook for about a year. During
that while I have only occasionally used theDVDdrivefor writing

of a burn.
I am using Windows XPSP2 and Nero 7.
I have seen Nero crashing like this before.
My suggestion would be: install a (free) burning package, like
from http://cdburnerxp.se/ and see if that shows the same
results.
It will let you distinguish a hardware from a software problem.
