Default ATI 9800XT and TV-out image

Hey people!

I run an ATI Radeon 9800XT, Windows XP and an Athlon 2000. I recently
purchased a wireless A/V sender so I can watch and listen to avi's and
mp3's on my big tv/stereo set-up in my living room. And damn it's
good, the wireless transfer of sound and image through the house works
like a treat. I'm converting the S-video out on the graphics card to
RCA, which then runs through the transmitter, then to the receiver,
and finally into my TV (also as RCA).

But my problem is this: say I'm running my desktop at its usual
1280x1024 @ 100Hz on my monitor. Now, I go over to the TV and it's
only displaying a _section_ of the desktop! So basically I'm seeing a
1284x1024 SIZED image but in a 400x300 viewing space on the TV - i.e.
a third of the damn image. Needless to say, this gets mighty annoying
if you're trying to do anything like surf the web etc on the TV.

But wait, there's a twist - this ONLY happens when my monitor is at
high resolutions, and ONLY when displaying the desktop. If I run a
game or go Fullscreen for a movie in Media Player, the image will be
displayed absoluuuutely correctly on the TV. Similarly, when booting
up the PC, the start-up BIOS and Windows XP screens display perfectly.
WTF is going on?

So I know where the problem is - my graphics card is doing weird
things with the resolution on my secondary display (the TV). But no
matter WHAT resolution I change the SECONDARY display to, it STICKS
the same 'clipped' image onto the TV. Has anyone else got any
experience in this? What am I not doing correctly?

Thanks in advance,

Simon
