Thanks, Bruce, for the terrific lead. The Boot Log Analyzer program
mentioned in the article showed that there is a 24-second delay while
file vnbt.386 is being (successfully) loaded.

Researching what this is about, I found someone who wrote this:

"Solved the slow VNBT by assigning fixed IP address on the built in
Ethernet (instead of waiting for DHCP timeout). If DHCP needed in the
future, it'll have to go back in ..."

But I don't know how to do this, so after doing a little more research
on my own, I'll post under a new thread.
