it is possible that a repair install may fix the problem.
have found that the system will auto adjust from AHCI to IDE but n ot the other way around.

I would suggest you leave both setting on AUTO.
safest setting.
this will allow the fan to increase/decrease speed as needed.

you can use a program like SPEED FAN to monitor what they are...
