Random Reboting on windows XP home/Pro is usually associated with bad
RAM, if the system is set to automaticaly reboot on error (in registry
or group policy), check the event viewer for any error info

Depends on your filesystem used on your "System Drive"


If it's NTFS then you must leave 15% of the drive if you ever want to
be able to defrag, plus the system runs like a slug if you eat up...

I know the smell you speak of, it's electrolyte from the capacitors on
the mainboard....Take a look at your board, at the shiny blue/black
"cans", try to find one on the board that looks puffed...

And that's definately not normal, you should be able to have 4 IDE's,
have you tried putting a HD on PRI-Master, then one on SEC-Master

Try both channels Slave...

That (to me) is indicative of RAM being the culprit.

Have you tried different RAM sticks?

Have you tried swapping some cards, leaving only what's NEEDED to
start the comp?

yes spin up, could be causing it, but why would the video card change
that? Perhaps video init time is shorter with the new card..

Some MB's also have a delay for this very problem, settable...

Ahh, you have physically damaged the board/GPU, however the damage
doesn't seem to be that huge (if it's the board that is), go over
that sucker with a magnifier and see if you can see any broken...

The Idea of backing up the whole array is VERY safe alternative, but I
think the real issue here is not complete loss of the array but rather
the defective disk only, yes 1/2 disks from a RAID array...

About the 1 of 2 disconnect problem, it is likely that any open
handles held by windows to files will be lost, Buffers will not be
flushed to disk, and the last filesystem operation will not...

dissipation, so your processor could be cooked but as long as there
is a VCCM+ voltage and a GND there it will heat up regardless,...

High CPU utilisation while doing drive-drive transfers

are your 2 drives that are doing slow transfers or sorry (high CPU)
transfers on the same physical IDE channel, if they are that's your
problem
