Need some advice ......

Who can give me the best advice possible?

I have the intention to re-install XP and all other software.
Therefor i want to install all the newest drivers for my mainboard and
graphic card.
However i am not sure which driver i need to install, the nVIDIA or the
ASUS.

Hardware Info:

Asus A7N8X Deluxe/Gold Rev. 1.02 (28-01-2003) (333 MHz FSB)
AMD Athlon XP 3000+
2 x 512 DDRAM PC3200 400 MHZ
Asus V9280 TD GeForce Ti 4200-8x 128 DDRAM
Iiyama S701 GT Vision Master 400

Operating System: XP Professional UK

I downloaded yesterday from the website of NVIDIA this file:

52.16_win2kxp_english_whql.exe

I read once that it would be the best choice to use the drivers from NVIDIA
for the ASUS mainboard as well for the ASUS Graphic Card (GeForce Ti
4200-8x)

What is the best procedure to start with?

First step is installing XP Pro (UK) again and the SP 1a.

Then i have to install the QSE-fix for USB 2.0 from the ASUS-CD which came
with the package. After that i will install the 3COM LAN-driver.

But then is the question what to do for installing the nForce2 driver!
If i use the one from the CDROM, i get the 1.16 driver from Asus if i am
right.
Contents of that file:

This nForce WinXP driver package contains the below components:

Audio driver 3.14 (WHQL'd)
Audio utilities 3.07
Network driver 2.81 (WHQL'd)
GART driver 2.78 (WHQL'd)
SMBus driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
Memory controller driver 2.75 (WHQL'd)
IDE driver 2.70 In The Box (WHQL'd)
IDE driver 3.07 Full Driver
Installer 3.11

But maybe it's better to take the most recent one?
Is that the one i downloaded from NVIDIA? (52.16)

After that i need to install the ASUS V9280 AGP 8x (GeForce Ti 4200-8x)
Which driver?

I am now not sure anymore what to do.
I am also doubting about the Sound Features ... Which driver does it
include?

I hope someone is willing to help me, so i can safely start with the new
install without causing troubles. If you can give me more useful tips it
would be great ...

Thanx in advance

Use the NForce 3.13 driver from the nVidia site.
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nforce_udp_winxp_3.13
It includes the most current and necessary drivers for your Mobo,
Video card and the onboard sound. With this package you won't need the
drivers on the Asus disc (except for 3Com) or the 52.16 Drivers you
downloaded. You also won't need the stuff from the Microsoft Update site.

How does it works?
Do i not need to install the QSE Fix for USB 2.0?

So if i understand it right, i just have to run the 3.13-exe file and all
drivers incl. the ASUS V9280, will be installed then? And this package is
the right one for my typical mainboard, the Asus A7N8X Deluxe/Gold Rev.
1.02? Can you give me the steps through the installation process of that
package or is it simply to do? Things where i have to watch for?

What stuff do you mean by "You also won't need the stuff from the Microsoft
Update site." ?

I don't think you'll need the USB 2.0 fix but if you find you do need
it, it can be added later. The important thing is to install the
Service Pack before the nVidia driver. The 3.13 Unified Driver install
should go easy. The .exe file sets up everything. It will detect what
is needed and install it. Along the way it will ask you if you want the
"SW IDE drivers" installed. You'll have to select them, the rest is
smooth. All nVidia devices should be setup after the called for
re-boot. Then you can add the 3Com driver. If you go to the Windows
Update site, it may detect and offer some other drivers for the nVidia
boards. You won't need them. It's just that it can't see you already
have them installed.

If i do install the USB 2.0 fix it won't bring me trouble when i run "your"
3.13 file?

All nVidia devices should be setup after the called for re-boot. Then you
can add the 3Com driver.

Sorry if i ask this dummy-question, but i won't make mistakes, what do you
mean with "should be setup"? Can you please more be specific?

Can't speak to the USB fix as I'm not running it.
The 3.13 will detect the onboard audio, nForce chipset and your video
card. It will install all the necessary drivers and after reboot they
should be working. You can then adjust screen settings to your liking.
If you look at the link I gave you can see what gets set up.
